Under the Tree

Once upon a time,
A young boy and his bear,
Worried not of time or day,
Their minds free of care.

Under the tree,
They played their games,
Sang summer songs,
Each day the same.

Till once upon a summer breeze,
The young boy didnt come,
Left his bear under the tree,
Lost his need to run.

There his bear will sit,
Under his childhood tree,
Until the boy comes home again,
And there his bear will be.

  2. :-( end of childhood + Velveteen Rabbit plus a book I loved when I was a little girl: The best loved Doll.

Made me sad AND I love it.

  3. Sweet poem, I can feel this sadness of growing up somewhere between the lines... one day you just have to leave the innocence and freedom of childhood...

  4. Awww, this is sad. The boy grew up, but the bear did not, still wondering where his playmate went. I like the story and am rather hoping, even though the boy has matured now and probably doesn't care about playing with a bear anymore, that he'll come back.

  5. Sweet and sad. Reminded me of Winnie the Pooh as well. I actually wrote a poem about a teddy bear that was left when someone went away too. Must be some kind of universal image!

  6. Sad and sweet, but childhood must end ... except in our hearts.

  7. I liked the lines:

    "There his bear will sit,
    Under his childhood tree,
Until the boy comes home again,
And there his bear will be."

Hope and faith that he will return...beautiful sentiment. Thank you for sharing.

  8. Will the bear really be there waiting for him? Will the bear really be there hoping for him?

This has a certain innocence lost sort of feel to it... it also reminds me of Toy Story in a good way.

    Nice one.
